A Poetry Sound Garden is an immersive, site-specific outdoor sound installation with featured poetry written onsite by a variety of writers as part of the event. Participating writers attend a free onsite Writing in Nature workshop earlier in the day, and then can read or post their new pieces as part of the public Sound Garden & Poetry Reading event that follows.
This year, acclaimed poets and Teaching Artists Davi Gray, Chavonn Shen, and Teresa Ortiz will lead the writing workshop at Powderhorn Park, which will also include a guided nature walk by Naturalist and Sculptor Jim Proctor. Composer JG Everest will install his 30-channel Sugarbush Sound Garden sound installation amongst the tall cottonwoods and other trees in the park, on the south shore of Powderhorn Lake, creating a dynamic and creative environment in which participants can respond to the moment and this sacred natural space in the heart of south Minneapolis. The Writing in Nature workshop will take place from 12pm-3pm, and the Sound Garden will run from 3-5pm. A live poetry reading will occur at 3:45pm. (See Map Below).
